Caravan And Motorhome Security Is No Lighthearted Topic

ClearView had a brilliant time at the NEC Caravan and Motorhome show 2018, talking to all the enthusiastic Motorhome/Caravan owners and companies.  A good experience talking face to face with some of the insurance companies that manage Caravan and Motorhome claims as well as discussing how ClearView's solutions can help tackle Caravan and Motorhome theft.

Many Caravan and Motorhome owners overlook tracking devices because they feel devices can be expensive, which is not all true.  Many high quality tracking devices won't break the bank.  These tracking devices should not be seen as a cost, but rather an investment.  A proportion of Caravan and Motorhome owners love reading camping and touring magazines, but for the price of a monthly magazine subscription, your prize asset can be protected from theft increasing it's recovery rate.

Caravans and Motorhomes are still an attractive target, with an emerging trend showing criminal gangs were often responsible for these crimes.  Many owners that have invested in a tracking device, make the mistake of buying a telematics and tracking device without doing research.

One factor contributing to the increase in ease for Caravans and Motorhomes being stolen is because many tracking devices attached to these assets can be located by thieves with GPS scanners, allowing thieves to remove the devices making assets difficult to locate.  ClearView wants to express the importance of Motorhome and Caravan security accessories and choosing a tracking device that is one step ahead of thieves with safety processes in place reducing the chances of thieves discovering and locating these tracking devices.  ClearView supplies the perfect asset tracker for Caravans and Motorhomes, with updated telematics and tracking technology, providing you with the knowledge that your asset is protected, especially whilst in storage.

To Increase Your Vehicles Security, ClearView Has Constructed A List Of Essentials

If you are storing your Caravan or Motorhome in a storage facility, make sure the facility has good security.  Don't go for the cheapest option.  Get to know the entrances to the site and what security is covering your storage area.  If you store your asset on your driveway, it is advised to purchase a motion light sensor and CCTV overlooking your asset, but we highly advise this security feature to be combined with other precautions we will list as a motion light and CCTV are not effective alone.  We highly recommend to make sure the lighting device invested in is a motion light, as this does not give thieves time to familiarise themselves with the unknown environment.  A constantly lit light will allow thieves to examine the situation from a distance and can alert to periods you are not home.

If you have expensive valuables such as technology inside your Caravan or Motorhome, we suggest you engrave into these valuables a contact number.  We would suggest against including a postcode because if these items are sold onto further thieves, it can highlight your address as an easy unsecured place to target if a previous robbery has been successful.

Marking your Caravan or Motorhome with an identifiable text or emblem will make it stand out if stolen.  We would advise placing these markings on the roof of the asset, that way the markings are identifiable from an Ariel view and the thieves are less likely to see and cover over the markings.  If in the unfortunate case your asset is stolen, you can alert authorities and people to look out for the markings.

Never leave personal registration documents in your Caravan or Motorhome.  If thieves get hold of your asset and plan to sell it on, these documents will make it easier for them to do so.  We advise keeping these documents in a secure place away from your asset (a secure place in your house would be perfect).

Fit an up to date telematics and tracking device to your Caravan or Motorhome.  As detailed above, make sure the tracking system provides technology in order to counter thieves GPS scanners and other means of locating devices.

Ensure you utilise Motorhome and Caravan security accessories.  Investing in Caravan accessories such as wheel clamps, hitch locks, alarm systems and secure rugged door locks will provide as a strong theft deterrent and make a thief's job harder than they would like.  If your asset is safeguarded, thieves are more likely to find an easier target.

You can never take too many steps to protect your asset.  Your prize possessions are someone else's target, so take security measures to increase the protection of your valuables.  We at ClearView know how distraught owners are when they find out their pride and joy has been stolen.  You can never 100% stop a caravan or motorhome getting stolen, but you can reduce the chances of it happening.
